Something that I stand by when it comes to advising clients is ensuring that the systems and products that we design are as open as possible. Over the years I have seen too many clients get locked-in to a service, product line, etc. This only causes adversity in the long run.
At some point they will decide to rip it all out and start from scratch again.
I won’t mention the worse offenders, but I do want to include some companies that have gone to the floor for me over the years. Companies that have products and services that I use as often as it makes sense..
By the way, I don’t get paid to say any of this, and I have never received anything from them for free. I don’t think that I’ve even received loaner equipment from any of them.
The first is SEL.
They are the utility company that has a lot of blue stuff. In fact you have probably seen me un-box some of their equipment.
They make more than just relays now, and I typically like the way that they approach problems.
Their very open pricing and warranty process is a joy in the space I work in.
Trihedral and VTScada
I have used a few HMI/SCADA applications and platforms over the years. They are all expensive and clunky.
Similar to SEL, Trihedral has a very clear and simple pricing strategy. They have a great product and the pricing matches the markets that they are approaching.
That’s it for now
I will continue to update this page and expand on why I use the companies/products that I do.
